Former Wizards coach Eddie Jordan to be hired by 76ers

According to a report by the Philadelphia daily news, the Philadelphia 76er's have chosen Eddie Jordan to be their new head coach. Jordan, who coached the Wizards from 2003 to 2008, led the Wizards to four straight playoff appearances during his stint in D.C. Despite his success, Jordan was fired, and subsequently replaced by interim head coach Ed Tapscott, after starting the 2008 season with a dismal 1-10 record.

'Skins Release Veteran Lineman Jansen

The Washington Redskins made a somewhat unexpected move today, Friday May 29th, by releasing veteran tackle Jon Jansen. 33 year old Jansen has played his entire NFL career with the 'Skins and was considered one of the most consistent players on the team over the past ten years. Since Being selected by the 'skins 37th overall in 1999 out of Michigan, Jansen's play has earned him a reputation as one of the NFL's elite lineman. The team leader was cut today, after a meeting with head coach Jim Zorn, team owner Daniel Snyder, and Redskins' vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato.

Real Madrid to play exhibition game in D.C. this summer

Spanish League runner up Real Madrid will be playing MLS team DC United this summer in an exhibition match. The August 9th meeting between the two teams will take place at Fedex Field instead of RFK stadium due to large attendance expectations. This will be the second meeting between United and Real Madrid in recent years. Their last meeting was in Seattle and resulted in a 1-1 tie.

Federov's Not the Only One, Brashear May Bolt for Russia Too

While being questioned about the Steroids allegations against the Caps, Donald "The Enforcer" Brashear said that he "would highly doubt" the said reports.  However, while talking about his future with the Capitals, Brashear said, "at my age and where I'm at, money is the most important."  Throughout the season, Brashear had some offers from teams in Russia's KHL, and decided to wait for after the season to make any decision on the matter.

The outlook for Brashear isn't looking too good.  The Caps wont overspend on him and he may be offered a lot more in Russia.  Hopefully the Caps number one black player (get it) stays!

Stephon Marbury Coming to DC?

According to an article by Frank Isola of the NY Daily news, former NY Knicks guard Stephon Marbury could find himself in a Wizards uniform. Marbury, who played under Wizards head coach Flip Saunders with the Minnesota Timberwolves, had reportedly been contacting Saunders on a daily basis during his playoff run with the Celtics this spring. The thought of the 6-2 point guard joining the team will undoubtedly spark mixed reactions from wizards faithful. While some would love to see the 12 year veteran who has averaged just over 19 points per game in the wizards backcourt, others cite "Starbury's" previous attitude problems and would prefer not to risk harming team chemistry with the addition.

Another Year of James in Washington! Just not LeBron

Mike James, whom the Wizards acquired in the trade of Antonio Daniels, has picked up his player option for the 09-10 season, according to his agent, Bernie Lee.  In 53 games for the Wiz, who are his tenth team in eight years, James averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists, and since he's only signed on for one more year he may be trade bait. 

Here's an interesting fact: James was the first player to have not been drafted in the NBA yet still average over 20 ppg.  As a spectator, I alway's liked his jumper, and I'd like to see what he does as a backup behind the (potentially) healthy Arenas.

Federov May Ditch the Caps for Russia

According to several reputable sources, including this Washington Post Article, Sergei Federov's prospects in DC aren't looking too good for Caps fans.  Its a bittersweet ditching, however, as his leaving would clear up a significant amount of cap space to bolster the Defense, which is VERY MUCH needed.  Its not a done deal, but dont expect to see Sergei Rockin the Red next season.
