Wizard, Timberwolves Make Blockbuster Deal

The Washington Wizards and the Minnesota Timberwolves made news today by agreeing to a deal that sent t-wolves star guard Randy Foye to DC. The deal also included sending veteran forward Mike miller to play for the wiz next season. In return, the Wiz sent big men Oleksiy Pecherov, Etan Thomas and Darius Songalia along with their fifth pick to the T-Wolves. The wizards accomplished two goals in this move. 1st they added depth to their pg position in Foye and acquired another scorer to come off the bench in Mike Miller. 2nd they freed up some cap room by unloading Thomas and Songalia.

Capitals resign Laing

The Washington Capitals have resigned left winger  Quintin Laing who played only one game with the team last season. Laing was sidelined for much of last season after tearing his spleen during the only game he played with the caps. However, Laing did recover in time to score two goals and record two assists for the Hershey Bears during the calder cup playoffs.

Nats Select Stephen Strasburg with 1st Pick

In a move that didn't surprise anyone, the Washington Nationals selected 20 year old pitcher Stephen Strasburg today in the MLB entry draft. The Nationals are now in a unique position because Strasburg's agent Scott Boras is expected to demand a record breaking contract for the young pitcher. The Nationals may not be ready to shell out the type of cash Boras is expected to demand which means they will be forced to explore the possibility of a sign and trade deal with the young prospect.

Amare Stoudemire Coming to DC?

According to Sports Illustrated, there are rumors circulating that claim that trade talks between the Wiz and Phoenix Suns have been ongoing as of late.  A few scenarios that have been flying around include:
  • Antawn Jamison, Mike James and his expiring contract, and our number 5 draft pick for Stoudemire.
OR my much preferred scenario:
  • Etan Thomas, Andray Blatche, Mike James and his expiring contract, and our number 5 pick for Stoudemire.
The last thing I'd want the Wizards to do is trade away Jamison, who has been the most consistent contributor to this team in the past few years and who is one of the most underrated players in the NBA today.
